All call firefighters carry a Motorola fire pager. The pager is activated by tones sent out by fire dispatch. Once the pager is activated dispatch alerts the call firefighters of emergencies.
All Call firefighters are issued Motorola portable radios. Each radio is programmed with a unique ID that transmit when the radio mic is keyed. This allows dispatch to know who’s radio is being keyed in the event of a downed firefighter. All Call firefighters are required to carry their radios at all fires for safety reasons.
The Call firefighters purchase and maintain all pagers and portable radios. Motorola pagers cost over $500.00 and Motorola portables cost over $700.00. Repairs to pagers and portables can be costly. Other expenses include batteries and antennas. The call firefighters sell Christmas trees and are always looking for grants and donations.
